Beach villas in Sri Lanka for rent

A seafront holiday home is a beach-lover’s dream come true - and your Sri Lanka beach villa definitely checks off all the right boxes. The home is beautifully appointed, with exquisite furnishings, expansive windows that bring the outdoors in and lofty, sunlit interiors. Step out to the veranda; just steps away is a glimmering pool and a garden that stretches out towards the beach.

There are plenty of things to do around our beach villas in Sri Lanka. Palm-lined shores, golden sand and aquamarine waters - you’ll find the best beaches on the island along the southern coast. There’s surfing, swimming, snorkeling and whale-watching to be enjoyed - and beach strolls and sunbathing become extraordinary experiences thanks to the scenic seascape.

Weligama Beach is a great place for travellers looking to try their hands out at surfing. The beach offers consistent surf, and the length of the beach ensures that it doesn’t get overly crowded easily.

Move southwards from Weligama, and you’ll wind up at Mirissa Beach, where a swathe of golden, palm-fringed coast curves into a crescent. The vibes are laid back; there’s a variety of casual restaurants, beach shacks and local amenities, but it thankfully doesn’t get overcrowded.

Surfing enthusiasts will find great waves at Mirissa Right - but do note that the surf conditions are suitable for intermediate and advanced surfers only. The Doctor’s House, located a 15-minute ride from the beach is our go-to spot for a relaxed, unfussy evening. Expect wood-fired pizzas, excellent drinks, a daily happy hour and live music events.

Koggala Beach, located north of Weligama is peaceful and quiet. You won’t find the bustling crowds present at the more popular beaches of Unawatuna here, which makes it ideal for villa vacationers seeking a restful getaway. Strolling across the beach is a great way to unwind, and comes accompanied with views of stilt fishermen at work. There’s surfing to be enjoyed too, although it’s best attempted only by expert surfers as strong undercurrents are present.

Situated in the Hambantota District, Tangalle offers a charming mix of old and new. High-end vacation rentals dot along the coast, yet the unspoilt surroundings - featuring traditional villages, sprawling rice fields and temples - remain. Less visited compared to the more popular coastal destinations in the south, Tangalle Beach is serene, with breathtaking sunsets and a soft, powdery coast ideal for beach runs and walks.

Away from the beach, visit the local fishing harbour to observe the local fishermen at work, or browse through stalls selling fresh fruits and spices at the local vegetable market (it’s located along Ennapitya Road]. Round out your evening at the elegant Il Mare. The menu features classic Italian dishes and a good wine selection, and the highlight of the venue is its cliff top terrace - the spot where you’ll look out to uninterrupted sunset views.

Kalpitiya, tucked away in the northwestern region of the island requires about three and a half hour’s drive from the airport. Ideal for avid kitesurfers and vacationers seeking an off the beaten path destination, the beaches here are undeveloped and remote; crowds of beach-goers are non-existent, and you won’t find much in terms of beach amenities.

The most developed stretch of coast here is Alankuda Beach, and it’s a venue that lends itself well to non-kitesurfing holidaymakers - there’s plenty of waterfront restaurants to lounge at. Kudawa Beach, located a 14-minute drive from Kalpitiya Lagoon, is picturesque and very quiet - the perfect spot for an uninterrupted beach walk.
