Located in Thalpe, Sri Lanka minutes away from the popular Galle Fort with its historical affluence and tourist attractions, Royal Indigo Villa is a luxury retreat with four bedrooms and excellently-appointed communal spaces, designed by a local architect. Made using antique furniture, reclaimed timber, and natural materials, the villa exudes a charm that is hard to find in big cities. With the Indian Ocean flanking the tropical gardens and the private pool, you know you’ve landed yourself a good deal! The beautiful Dutch-inspired interiors is definitely Sri Lankan, and welcomes you for a good time.
There are four bedrooms at Royal Indigo Villa and each of them is air-conditioned and equipped with king-sized beds and one with double or queen-beds as per your preference. The bedrooms are spread across the ground, mezzanine and top floor thus, giving you a chance to enjoy ocean views from no matter where you are in the villa.
The master bedroom the most spacious and located right beside the pool with direct access. It even enjoys its own plunge pool out in the back for the utmost privacy! There are en-suite bathrooms that are equally luxurious with bathtubs and showers, as well as lounge areas with TVs.
For a beach villa, Royal Indigo delivers on all the promising elements with a private, tiled saltwater swimming pool that comfortably sits facing the Indian Ocean. Across the gardens and the cinnamon-stick fence is the sandy Thalpe beach with the ocean waves lapping the shores. The pool deck is fitted with daybeds and even has a Weber BBQ in-built for the most glorious afternoon grill with friends and family. More towards the beach, you will find a beach shower and footwash for your convenience.
On the ground floor is where you’ll find the open-sided living room at Royal Indigo facing the pool across which lies the ocean. The traditionally-designed space offers modern comforts in the form of genuine Australian calf leather sofas that are excellent for an afternoon nap. There are certain elements in the décor that remind one of Sri Lanka’s past through the pages of history. On the mezzanine floor, there is another lounge area with couches and a TV for a media room that you can enjoy!
The villa is essentially available to rent as a bed and breakfast and you can always upgrade to a complete Sri-Lankan breakfast prepared by professional in-house chefs. Offering delicious dishes prepared using locally-produced and home-grown ingredients, it would be the best meal you ever did taste! The dining area is also found on the ground floor thus, giving you access to even delicious views to go along with your feast!
Apart from the many amenities that are available to guests, there is a team of professionals and kind people to look after you during your stay. There is a daily maid service to keep the rooms and the living area clean, laundry services available, massages at an extra cost, and other useful services as well!
The villa could not be more ideally located in Thalpe, alongside several other luxurious holiday homes that are the pride of Sri Lanka. The historical city of Galle, where the Galle Fort has been deemed a UNESCO World Heritage Site is a place that you must visit. There are numerous restaurants and cafes waiting to be explored in the area as well!
10/10Other than the fantastic location right on the ocean front with sea turtles and crabs galore, the highlight was the excellent service and spectacular food. The chef, ex of the Intercontinental Doha, was delightful and varied and catered for discerning “foodie” adults and young and very young children. The villa team was discreet but ever at hand to tidy up and fill up (the glasses!). Trips in people carriers and tuk-tuks were reliably arranged and the 24hr security professional. Nearby some of. the local bars/restaurants have disappeared post COVID but there are beach bars at short tuk-tuk ride away. Galle is a fabulous town with markets and shopping (particularly for the ladies) with some excellent restaurants- though the service was not up to previous high SriLankan standards (post COVID I fear). But the best food is at the villa anyway. Go for the SriLankan breakfasts and the seafood BBQ - never seen so many lobsters on one table. Highly recommended villa. Mention too of villa finder who helped us out after being “bumped” from our first choice.
10/10What a beautiful villa, the pictures do not do any justice! After you have blown away by the well-decorated interior and amazing views, you cannot help but realize that its perfection is completed by the team of wonderful staff -> from service to the yummiest food ever! Thank you Lakmal, Chef Janaka, & team for looking after our every need. We loved it here so much and if fate allows it, we will surely be back again.
9.4/10We stayed as a family of 6 for a week and had a great time. The Villa is excellent and the staff even better. Janaka put all of the local restaurants to shame - a truly wonderful cook. We spent a lot of time surfing in Weligama and trips to Galle in the evening, although there are a lot of great restaurants nearby too. One downside is the noise - Road on one side and roaring surf that never stops on the other - nevertheless it would be hard to beat.

10/10Stepping in off the road Royal Indigo Villa is like another world. Welcomed by staff, manager Lakmal, who organized our stay and activities, chef Janaka who had a delicious lunch waiting (and many other great meal), housekeeper Leslie who kept all looking beautiful around the 8 of us including a 16 months old, Ranga who drove us around the district with ease. The house is new, spacious and airy with shutters leting in the breeze & the sound of the waves. The bedrooms are all in separate areas of the house with private verandah and lovely views. We loved the pool and the lawn with the beach just outside the fence.
