Villa Kumara is a traditional, luxurious home near Mirissa beach, Sri Lanka with acres of lands surrounding it grown with abundant tropical vegetation and luscious plants. A natural stone infinity swimming pool overlooks this surreal bounty while the palm trees dance and billow in the cool winds. The beautiful villa features faux-finish painted walls in its three bedrooms, rustic and antique furniture in the open-concept living areas, a sunken kitchen in the centre of the room, and a cosy lounge with plush seating.
Three, air-conditioned bedrooms are found at Villa Kumara each with its own terrace and seating areas for absolute comfort and privacy. The bedrooms are furnished with raised king-sized beds and decorated with a variety of artefacts and artwork. The traditional décor seeps inside the living room as well. The sliding glass doors lead to the terrace with comfortable daybeds and a splendid view of the gardens.
There are roll away beds for kids in two of the bedrooms and lounge chaises in each bedroom where you can curl up with a book. En-suite bathrooms feature freestanding bathtubs or shower stalls alongside other amenities.
A few minutes on a tuk-tuk and you would be surfing at Weligama, the villa is close to the main sights of the coast. The villa itself features a 10-metre infinite swimming pool with expansive views across plantations and tropical flora. There is a wooden deck with plenty of sun loungers and parasols to keep you comfortable so you can relax and soak up some sun. On the pool’s edge resides a traditional thatched pavilion with stone-edged seating for wonderful views and an even better time.
Located poolside with sliding glass doors separating the indoors and outdoors, the living area at Villa Kumara is no doubt well-lit owing to the sunlight streaming in and a cheerful space with traditionally-designed furniture, vaulted ceiling, and antique cabinets. Mostly made out of stone, the living room features a unique concept of naturally-made seating areas as well as accompaniments that create a pleasing ambiance in the room. There is a second living room with comfortable cushioned chairs, a four-seater dining table, and a terrace with alfresco dining.
The living area also accommodates the dining area and kitchen with the dining area also carved out of stone with wooden stools and chairs to serve as seating. The kitchen is something unique as it is sunken into the floor with steps leading to it. There is a breakfast bar with stools, modern amenities, and plenty of space.
Overseen by a guest manager, the villa functions smoothly because of its staff members taking care of daily chores like housekeeping, security, and maintenance. A tuk-tuk can be arranged by the manager to take you around with ease if you wish to explore. There is a chef on property and you can request various dishes to suit your palate.
Villa Kumara is situated near Mirissa beach which is an excellent spot for whale and dolphin watching. You can head to nearby Weligama famous for its surf breaks or head into Galle city, a 40-minute drive, so you can see the UNESCO World Heritage Galle Fort and the rest of the Dutch-inspired architecture in the city.
10/107 of us visited Kumara for a week in Feb 2017. It was simply perfect. The place is stunning. The individual guest houses are beautiful and the communal area and pool are paradise on earth. All the staff are great and go above and beyond. From arranging tuk tuks, to sorting out trips to national parks, to beer runs! Everything was catered for. Kumara is only a short drive to Mirissa beach (beautiful, with lots of restaurants, bars - strongly recommend Zephyr.) and from Welligama (not quite as nice, but good for surfing.) Just stop googling, stop thinking about and book Kumara!!
10/10The Villa (s) are incredible. The Staff are fantastic. Its a perfect spot to hide away from everything, its hidden away just enough, but very close to Weligama if needed. Its so peaceful. We were there with our kids (3yr old & 1.5yr old) who just loved the environment to run around in. Its worth noting that the villa's are very separate, so for younger children you have to be happy for them sleeping in a separate building/ villa to you. All in all we can't recommend this place highly enough. You de-stress in a instant! The Pool will be missed. Its amazing. The host was always on hand prior to our visit to ensure we had everything we need once we arrived.
8/10A recently constructed luxury villa built as separate pavilions located at the eastern end of Welligama Bay. The two bedrooms are housed in separate walled pavilions. To access the house the last 100m from the road is via a dirt track although it is perfectly passable. The cook is capable of local cuisine only. Not suitable for small children. Close to the surf break of Welligama and the beach at Mirissa. Luxury accommodation. Very good for one or two couples. Private. Peaceful.
