Tucked away on the southern shores of resplendent Sri Lanka, Villa Thuya in the traditional and serene village of Balapitiya is tropical modernity at its finest. The three-bedroom contemporary home features direct access to the beach with a boulder formation, infinite ocean views, boat rides a-plenty, and fragrant gardens owing to cinnamon plantations and blooming flowers.
Right at the cusp of tradition and modernity, the villa is essentially a luxurious holiday home nestled over a vast piece of land and surrounded by lush gardens. Open-plan living allows a seamless transition from the outdoors to indoor living. So many things to do yet, so little time; Villa Thuya is surrounded by intriguing sights, cinnamon estates, boat safaris, and plenty more.
Three bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms are exquisitely designed and well-maintained to provide you with a luxurious living experience. Designed with neutral colours, plush beds with quality linen, and locally-woven carpets, the bedrooms speak to the rest of the villa with a minimal, luxe design. The bathrooms are fitted with showers, hot/cold water, and the upstairs bathroom even features a freestanding bathtub overlooking the garden.
The bedrooms are air-conditioned and with the large windows or sliding glass doors you can be assured of a gorgeous view each morning as you wake up.
You will find expansive gardens teeming with native plants and trees around the main house at Villa Thuya. The free-size swimming pool features a massive natural boulder inside for a rustic, wild, and authentic experience. The pool is snug amid verdant gardens that feature abundant natural foliage, tall trees, and freshly-cut grass. All this beauty resides under vast, blue skies. A sun terrace just beside the pool allows you to enjoy the fresh air while lounging on the bamboo sofas.
Villa Thuya features two modern living spaces, one downstairs just beside the swimming pool and the other one upstairs. Both rooms feature floor-to-ceiling glass windows and doors that slide open to the most luscious view of either the garden or the glistening ocean. The main living room is furnished with plush, white sofas and opulent chairs; there is a natural stone wall that adds character to the room. You have to yourself a massive space as you can leave the doors open to use both the outdoors and indoors as an entertainment area.
The living room and lounge upstairs is similarly decorated but with the addition of a striking and popular Steve McCurry portrait of the Afghan girl. The raw beauty of the portrait translates into the raw nature that resides outdoors. There is an HDTV with DVD and Blu-ray so you can enjoy a few classics. The romantic setting is perfect for scrumptious feasts on the indoor dining area or even out on the terrace. You have the option to choose from a variety of mouth-watering delicacies, from breakfast to set menus offering lunches and dinners.
The villa has onsite staff to cater to guests as well as maintain the property with daily housekeeping and a round the clock front desk to help you plan your day, excursions, day-trips to Galle or Colombo, and even a boat safari on Madhu river. To enjoy local delicacies, the staff offers an extensive menu that you can choose from by informing them a day in advance.
Nearby, you will find a plethora of amazing activities and sights such as the turtle hatcheries at Kosgoda, Galle fort, safaris at national parks, and Lunuganga, the historical country house of renowned architect Geoffrey Bawa. You will never be short of things to do since it is close to most of the major cities, towns, and beaches like Ambalangoda, Hikkaduwa, and Bentota. You can engage in water activities such as diving, snorkelling, and exploring the local reefs.
