A unique Sri Lankan home designed by a Scotsman echoing the works of maestros Geoffrey Bawa and Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Madampe House along the coast of Sri Lanka is the perfect spot for a tropical getaway with friends and family. The large open spaces and light and breezy owing the villa flanking Madampe Lake. It is mere minutes away from a serene beach and a short drive can take you to intriguing sites of Galle Fort or the Kosgoda turtle hatchery. There are three bedrooms at the villa that open out to private verandas while the lush, green gardens serve to refresh your mind, body, and soul.
There are three bedrooms at Madampe House which are all located upstairs with private terraces and ensuite bathrooms. The rooms can accommodate up to seven guests with ease. The king-sized beds are fitted with quality linen with a high thread-count and mosquito nets so you can sleep with ease. The air-conditioned bedrooms are great for when you wish to retreat to your own space for some idyllic rest. The balconies have outdoor seating so a cup of tea against the beautiful panorama would not be too bad. Surf the internet and watch some shows as there is free wifi available.
Whichever direction you choose to turn, you will be greeted by a sight that is resplendent, glorious, and the most luscious green you ever did see. Apart from the thick trees and plants, the garden at Madampe House has been manicured to perfection in order to provide an expansive space where kids can run around with ease, while the grown-ups enjoy a mindful yoga session or meditation.
There is a lavish swimming pool right in the middle of all this glory accompanied by sun chairs and daybed for comfort, relaxation, and rest. Take out the villa’s canoe on to the lake for an adventure you will not forget. A BBQ can be set up outdoors as well.
Open to the swimming pool, the main living pavilion has jute blinds that separate that two spaces as and when you require. To create a large space wherein you can throw yourself a garden pool party, roll up the blinds to mingle both the outdoors with the indoors. The whitewashed interiors, stone steps, high-soaring ceilings, and indoor plants create a calm and meditative atmosphere inside the living area. Furnished comfortably, guests can kick back and put their feet up to take a breather from all the many adventures.
Enjoy a delicious feast prepared by the house chef while lounging in the garden or indoors on the dining table. The staff can prepare local delicacies upon request to ensure you get a taste of Sri Lankan food without having to travel far. A kitchen that is fully-equipped with a Nespresso machine, oven, toaster, and other appliances for your convenience. There is an island in the centre so everyone can hang around the kitchen with ease.
Madampe House is fully-staffed with friendly faces that will welcome you with happy smiles and a familiar warmth. They are there to make your stay easier with housekeeping and maintenance services. You can even request the staff to prepare all your meals, book tours and excursions, or even make arrangements for other activities. The property has a free parking available in case you’re driving down in a rental.
Only 250-metres from the beach, Madampe House gives you access to some of the best places to see in Sri Lanka. The historical city of Galle is known for its Dutch Fort while Kosgoda is renowned for the turtle hatcheries. Surf breaks are plenty in the region so you can hit the waves if you’re a surfer. The villa staff can book tours to places like Uda Walawe National Park, Moonstone Mine, and Lunuganga.
